Myths about Hypnosis
Stress Reduction
Hypnosis to Lose Weight
Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

Hypnosis is a natural and effective approach to help you lose weight, stop smoking and reduce stress while increasing your health and confidence. Simply stated hypnosis is focused attention. Your mind is aware and your body is relaxed.

People can change their behavior without using hypnosis. But there are times when you want help and support in making a change. And it is in these situations that hypnosis can be one of the most effective ways to change behavior.

Hypnosis will not make you change. Hypnosis cannot make you lose weight or make you quit smoking or make you feel less stressed, but if changing your behavior is what you desire to do, hypnosis allows you to use your mind as an ally in your success.

The initial appointment includes a thorough consultation, assessment and hypnosis session, and typically lasts an hour and one-half. Subsequent appointments are usually scheduled for one hour. During hypnosis the client is seated in a recliner chair.

Myths about Hypnosis

Many people however have a distorted image of hypnosis based on television and movies. Let's explore a few of the concerns people have based on these distorted images.

Myth: Hypnosis can make a person do things they don't want to.
Fact: You will not do anything under hypnosis that you don't want to do. In fact, if you were told to do something that offended you or violated your ethics, you would open your eyes and immediately be alert.

Myth: Hypnosis acts as a truth serum, compelling a person to tell the truth or divulge a secret.
Fact: You have no greater compulsion to tell the truth under hypnosis than you otherwise would. It is possible to lie or edit and you won't tell any secrets either.

Myth: A person can 'get stuck' in hypnosis.
Fact: If you were in a deep, relaxed, hypnotic state and the hypnotist left the room, you would either wake up shortly, or if you were tired, you would fall asleep and then wake up when you were rested. If someone came in and touched your arm, you would wake up right away. It's impossible to stay hypnotized indefinitely.

Myth: A hypnotized person is unaware or out of control.
Fact: You will remain aware of everything. There is no time when you will lose control. Instead you will be taking control of an area of your life that you were not taking control of before.

Myth: A person will know they are in hypnosis by the way they feel.
Fact: You may not recognize when you are in hypnosis. Many people report only that they are aware of being relaxed and were expecting something more dramatic. However, you are in hypnosis when your mind is alert and your body is relaxed. And the resulting change in attitudes and behaviors are the ultimate measure of your success.

Myth: A person may be unable to be hypnotized.
Fact: Hypnosis works on the premise that as human beings we are all suggestible.

When people say they are not suggestible, they are often confusing suggestible with gullible. Being open to suggestion is being open to change.

Myth: A person can be too strong willed to be hypnotized.
Fact: Being strong willed is an asset. In hypnosis you will be using that determination to your advantage.

Hypnosis to Reduce Stress

In the first session, we identify the causes of stress in your life and create a custom program based on your individual goals. An initial program of three sessions is recommended to provide support and reinforcement.

Using hypnosis for stress reduction allows your creative mind to work with you to change your responses to stress. You create a shift in your perception that leads to a change in your behavior. Stress reduction sessions often include learning self-hypnosis and other simple and effective relaxation techniques.

Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

You can become a non-smoker in one session. However, you may also choose to follow up with stress reduction sessions for support and reinforcement. Together we will identify your compelling reasons for wanting to stop smoking and use them to create an effective hypnosis session for you.

With hypnosis to stop smoking, it is important that YOU have decided that the date of your appointment will be the last day that you smoke. You will be asked for your cigarettes and lighter when you come for your appointment.

If you have stopped smoking before, but not permanently, that was a temporary success. It is not uncommon for a person to stop multiple times before they are successful at becoming a non-smoker forever.

This time I was ready to quit but I couldn't have done this on my own. I smoked for over 40 years and tried to quit several times before. I felt comfortable with Carla and all I can say is "It worked for me!"

Hypnosis to Lose Weight

In the first session, we identify what losing weight is about for you and create a custom program based on your individual goals. An initial program of three sessions is recommended to provide support and reinforcement.

Losing weight is not a one size fits all proposition. For most people, losing weight is about changing behavior with respect to eating and exercise habits. But other factors such as body image and self-criticism may also be important. For some people feeling at peace with themselves as they are is an important first step.

Hypnosis is most successful when combined with a structured program of eating and exercise along with changes in thoughts and attitudes. Research done in the 1980's and 1990's indicates that hypnosis supports long term weight loss by supporting adherence to changed behaviors.
